Competency Test has Started...

I have just gotten my competency timeline. Now i am trying to complete my interventions- verbal and written. For the verbal, it is done, just need a pharmacist to assess it in the form. I have 1 written and i need 2 more... Which is not a big issue, will get them, just get a simple one will do.

The problem is with the write ups. 2 prescriptions from the 16 disciplines, which means 32 prescriptions. I am in the midst of collecting, but some are really not that common. Got to find time to look into those boxes to find the older prescriptions of that disciplines. Write up is really one that will make me worry and would have to think about it even after work. The worst thing is, i need reliable sources. I can foresee myself staying back after work to try to gather the information. I shall start that soon, maybe this sat.

I really feel as though i am back to my attachment days, but this time round, the expectations and tasks are much higher and complex.

On the side note, i really find that i need to exercise. Just doing simple tasks like squatting, standing and stuff can make me feel so tired. I am so out of the "exercise world". I think i should find some time to maybe go for a run...

Song for Singapore by Corrinne May

National Day Parade 2010 Theme Song
Song for Singapore
Written and Performed by Corrinne May

It's a brand new day a brand new story
I remember the way it used to be
We've come so far
You're my history you're my beginning
In all I've done I've nurtured in your arms
and you've carried me this far
I want to sing
sing a song for Singapore
with every generation there's more to be grateful for
So come and sing
sing a song for Singapore
You're my brother you're my sister
I'm thankful for my Singapore
My Singapore
Singapore

Come together everybody
Fly the flag and share our story
Live our wildest dreams
Celebrate the red and white
The moon and stars in harmony unite
Let every colour and every heart
Come on and sing
sing a song for Singapore
with every generation there's more to be grateful for
So come and sing
sing a song for Singapore
You're my brother you're my sister
I'm thankful for my Singapore
My Singapore
Singapore

We've had our ups and downs
Sometimes the best things are taken for granted
You're my family you're my home
I want to sing
sing a song for Singapore
with every generation there's more to be grateful for
So come and sing
sing a song for Singapore
You're my brother you're my sister
I'm thankful for my Singapore
My Singapore
Singapore

Creative nicknames

I shall talk about the creative nicknames which my fellow colleagues of the same nationality, same race, same age group, same position created.

First is lemon, one of the senior PT and the one in charge of prescription (inpatient discharge) area. She is also like the 2nd incharge of PT, if i am not wrong. How this nickname came about? I just gain more understanding on Sat. Apparently at the start, when i asked one girl, she just told me that she wore yellow that day. Until yesterday, my dear alien friend told me it is because she is always so sarcastic. She is also a hypocrite person. She would tell us how disgusting it is to hear the Filipinos speaking in the Philippines and they are turning our place into a mini Lucky Plaza. But behind our back, she actually gave a treat to the Filipinos. Can you see the difference between her words and actions?

Second is 小倩。倩女幽魂的小倩。为什么? 她喜欢飘来飘去看你在做什么。而且无声无息,因此为-飘。真是就高境界!活生生的人竟能练就飘移大法!让我大开眼界!She is the operations pharmacist, so she is in charge of the operation of the pharmacy. She is all smiley, very nice person and has a green name tag- meaning service quality award. Oh ya, lemon also has this award too.

Let's talk about how powerful her Chinese gongfu is. On Thu, there was only my friend and i packing the meds (there is still someone typing and generating labels), as i am back from lunch and she is scheduled for a late lunch. Where's the rest? Lunch. Lousy arrangement, i would say. (On fri, there is only another friend and i. She's typing and generating labels, while i pack. Fantastic.) Ok, back to the topic. My friend and i were talking but our hands did not stop. Suddenly, she said, “不要讲话,赶快帮我pack. 很多prescription.” My friend talk back and said, "but we are packing". What's the point of talking back, she is your superior. At this moment, you should just say yes or just shut up and do your packing.

Thing is when did she appear? Her Chinese gongfu nearly landed me in ICU. Power!

Last one is 五千块, alright this one is not very creative. There are Bruneians who are here to train and learn how to be a PT. Heard that their salary is $5000 a month. Training in SGH and would be back to their superb country to be a PT back there. They comment that they hate Singaporeans. If you hate us so much, why stay and use our patient and taxpayers' money? So do i hate you 3, but not all the Bruenians. Laughed at me on the 2nd day of work, when i asked about the location of a drug.

And why start a conversation with us trying to find out how much bonus we got on Bonus Day? None of your biz. And we just started working, what bonus are we entitled to? Besides, your pay is $5000, we just have a miserable $1359.50 after CPF and CDAC. No matter how much bonus we get, it is still lesser than your $5000 every month.

Nurses sucks!

It's been one month into my work. Hope that i can receive my staff pass soon. And i seriously want a locker. Sharing with people is not a very good thing. My bag has to change several positions a day and i really can't put some of the documents in the locker too. Not that i can't trust her, but its because it is her locker after all. She is really kind enough to offer me a place to place my bag. To put it plainly, i feel paiseh.

Besides that i must say the environment and the people are generally nice. That means to say those my our age, our position, our nationality and our race. Some of the rest are rather selfish. Sometimes, when i am supposed to be understudy on a new duty, i will just tell them that and then they may just walk away. If you say you dunno as it is your first time, they will just talk a bit and leave. Fine, it's ok. People do forget how they have come to the stage they are now. Me too.

They are trying to exposed me to new tasks and duties now. I really hate telephonist duty. Have to speak to those lazy and rude nurses. Its not that they do not have access to the system to check for "Q" number and all. They are just plain lazy. When i ask them to check politely, they will just give me that, "fine, fine, i will check attitude". In fact, at the start of the few days into the duty, i checked for them. So they took me for granted. Part of the reason why i check for them, its because i ain't confident of what i am saying.

But now, such enquires are so common. I will just tell them to get a computer to check. And they will give excuses that computers are all used by someone. Oh, so your computers all are being used, what do you think about our side? We need to generate labels and it is a Fri! Tons and tons of IMR are sent to us, so they have enough medications to last for the weekends. Thus, all the more i can't find a computer. Besides, its your duty. I don't sit in front of computers all day long and wait for your call. I am packing and walking around all over the place. Looking for people like proud and always in bad mood pharmacist, medications...

Just today, a nurse called and the nurse asked if she is a pharmacist. When she said that she is a PT, the nurse started to have double standards. Btw, my friend is leaving for NUS Pharmacy in July/August 2010 and 4-5 years later she would be a registered pharmacist. Look down on her for all you want. One day, she will be back to show you who she really is.

Some nurse really think that they are so superb, just because they know more drug knowledge than us due to experience. I am new and weak in this area. But with more experience, i will improve too. So stop saying you want to kill me to your colleague without covering the phone receiving end. And stop assuming that everyone you speak to in the pharmacy is a pharmacist. They ain't so free to pick calls.

We aren't free to pick up calls too, but do we have a choice? So it would be great if people stop threatening to say they want to sue me. What good would it do you at the end of the day to sue me? I am a mere PT in SGH. Stop throwing your weights around to get things go your way.

It is not just outsiders who throw their weights. There was a staff who called to say can she get her medications first. But we have yet to receive her prescription yet. And she says can she bring down her prescription down and we pack for her straight. Sorry, still have to wait. I had the heart to tell her, don't think that you are a staff, then we have to serve you first. You are a staff, so all the more you should understand that golden rule- first come first serve basis.

Actually, they are nice nurses too. Sadly, a minority.
