It's been one month into my work. Hope that i can receive my staff pass soon. And i seriously want a locker. Sharing with people is not a very good thing. My bag has to change several positions a day and i really can't put some of the documents in the locker too. Not that i can't trust her, but its because it is her locker after all. She is really kind enough to offer me a place to place my bag. To put it plainly, i feel paiseh.
Besides that i must say the environment and the people are generally nice. That means to say those my our age, our position, our nationality and our race. Some of the rest are rather selfish. Sometimes, when i am supposed to be understudy on a new duty, i will just tell them that and then they may just walk away. If you say you dunno as it is your first time, they will just talk a bit and leave. Fine, it's ok. People do forget how they have come to the stage they are now. Me too.
They are trying to exposed me to new tasks and duties now. I really hate telephonist duty. Have to speak to those lazy and rude nurses. Its not that they do not have access to the system to check for "Q" number and all. They are just plain lazy. When i ask them to check politely, they will just give me that, "fine, fine, i will check attitude". In fact, at the start of the few days into the duty, i checked for them. So they took me for granted. Part of the reason why i check for them, its because i ain't confident of what i am saying.
But now, such enquires are so common. I will just tell them to get a computer to check. And they will give excuses that computers are all used by someone. Oh, so your computers all are being used, what do you think about our side? We need to generate labels and it is a Fri! Tons and tons of IMR are sent to us, so they have enough medications to last for the weekends. Thus, all the more i can't find a computer. Besides, its your duty. I don't sit in front of computers all day long and wait for your call. I am packing and walking around all over the place. Looking for people like proud and always in bad mood pharmacist, medications...
Just today, a nurse called and the nurse asked if she is a pharmacist. When she said that she is a PT, the nurse started to have double standards. Btw, my friend is leaving for NUS Pharmacy in July/August 2010 and 4-5 years later she would be a registered pharmacist. Look down on her for all you want. One day, she will be back to show you who she really is.
Some nurse really think that they are so superb, just because they know more drug knowledge than us due to experience. I am new and weak in this area. But with more experience, i will improve too. So stop saying you want to kill me to your colleague without covering the phone receiving end. And stop assuming that everyone you speak to in the pharmacy is a pharmacist. They ain't so free to pick calls.
We aren't free to pick up calls too, but do we have a choice? So it would be great if people stop threatening to say they want to sue me. What good would it do you at the end of the day to sue me? I am a mere PT in SGH. Stop throwing your weights around to get things go your way.
It is not just outsiders who throw their weights. There was a staff who called to say can she get her medications first. But we have yet to receive her prescription yet. And she says can she bring down her prescription down and we pack for her straight. Sorry, still have to wait. I had the heart to tell her, don't think that you are a staff, then we have to serve you first. You are a staff, so all the more you should understand that golden rule- first come first serve basis.
Actually, they are nice nurses too. Sadly, a minority.
